Tamashek Partnership
Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
John 7:37-38
Our Partnership with Tamashek
In August 2006, Crossway sent a small mission team to support our missionaries’ work among the Tamashek people of West Africa. That trip helped our church see the great need of remaining actively connected to our missionaries. The God-given success of Crossway’s recent mission trip, and heart-felt connection established with the people there has led to a long-term partnership with the work to the Tamashek people. This partnership involves our ‘adoption’ of them as a people-group. Knowing the difficult nature of the work among them, Crossway prayerfully and financially supports mission efforts to the Tamashek above and beyond our normal missions involvement.
So what will this partnership look like? At its most basic level this partnership will be most clearly evident through our prayers. In the midst of our regular prayers for world missions, we are committing to prayer especially for the Tamashek people and the missionaries that work with them. You can download our most recent prayer guide here.
This partnership will also involve more mission trips to West Africa. While there is no set plan for the frequency of these trips, there is a goal to go every other year. As we grow and are better able, this will likely increase to a trip every year. Our goal is to build long-term relationships with the Tamashek people.
On the ‘off-years’ and during special occasions, Crossway will also collect funds for special ministry projects for the Tamashek people and gift boxes to encourage the missionaries who will be a regular part of this partnership. We want them to know that we are praying for them and love them, and sending small gifts is an easy way to show that. There will be other ways that members of Crossway will be able to be a part of this missions partnership.
The hope is that through this partnership, in addition to our broad missions involvement through the SBC, BSCM, and BABA, we will be able to invest in a specific group and help the gospel go forward among them for the glory of God and the joy of Tamashek.
