 Psalm 18 – Righteousness through Faith (mp3)

Introduction
Psalm 18 is David’s testimony of God’s faithfulness in his life. David is not speaking as a king or a man of many accomplishments, but as a servant, a humble servant, of the one True God. His direction for this Psalm is to the Choirmaster so that the nation of Israel may sing this Psalm as a song of praise to their God.

1. David’s praise-filled descriptions of the Lord (vv. 1-3)
a) My strength
b) My rock
c) My fortress
d) Deliverer
e) God
f) Refuge
g) Shield
h) Salvation
i) Stronghold

2. David calls on the Lord (vv. 4-19)
God’s ability to answer is never limited:

  • Not by distance
  • Not by circumstance
  • Nothing can limit God’s ability to intervene

3. David takes comfort in his God-given integrity (vv. 20-28)

  • Galatians 3:10-11
  • James 2:17

4. The Lord’s deliverance of David (vv. 29-45)

5. Praise the Lord (vv. 46-49)

  • Hebrews 13:6
  • Luke 12:48

Conclusion
As David reflected on his life, he saw very clearly how God, his Lord, had his hand on every detail. He responded out of faith and had kept the ways of the Lord when many men would have taken personal credit for such great accomplishments. David gave all the praise and honor to God and invited all nations to do the same.
