Bible Reading Plan: January 1 – 7

At Crossway Christian Church, we claim that we are a people of the Bible.  The Bible directs our time, our worship, our theology, our lives, our prayers, our finances, our relationships.  It gives us strength when we are weak, humility when we are strong, comfort when we are distraught, peace in every circumstance.  We believe strongly that the Bible can do these things because it is precisely what it claims to be: the very revelation of God, and is therefore used by Him to create and shape reality.

But, for this power to be useful to us, to provide us any benefit at all, we must read.  Medicine that simply sits on the counter will not aid the sick. Only fools, needing medicine made readily available for them, refuse to take it.  Medicine taken can heal bodies.  Scripture intake can heal your soul.

My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh (Proverbs 4:20-22, ESV).

And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners” (Mark 2:15-17, ESV).

If we are to be relieved of our sickness, to experience the benefits of one who is known as the Word become Flesh, we should have a steady intake of the words he has provided to us.  At Crossway we apply the salve of the word to our souls through our worship on Sunday morning, and our time together in both Sunday School and in our Community Groups.  Yet, none of these is a supplement for the daily medicine of Scripture reading.

To aid you in your daily Bible reading, we will be reading through Scripture according to The Bible Project’s Bible Reading Plan.  The plan is available as a PDF here. This plan aids your reading with very helpful summary and explanatory videos.  Each week we will post one of these videos on our website, with a short note about something to watch for, or a further explanation related to the reading for that week.  Below is the introductory video for the series.

The elders of Crossway hope that the reading of Scripture will enhance your love of Jesus Christ, the very word of God and the healer of our souls.  Please let us know of anyway that we can help your intake of God’s word!

As we begin this series, there are many videos produced for the very important book of Genesis, especially Genesis 1-24 which we will be reading this week.  The relevant videos are posted below.  At times, we will not post the videos directly according to the plan given above; we have done this to make sure that the videos are somewhat more evenly distributed throughout the weeks of the year. Read, watch, and grow in the Lord!
